Desire Cometh

Desire Cometh

“Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.” Proverbs 13:12

Until we get to heaven we will always have desires we are waiting for. But if we really pay attention, we most likely have long awaited desires that have already been fulfilled that we are enjoying right now! At least we enjoy them when we remember to…

My perspective has been too focused on hopes deferred today. I’ve even complained about long-awaited blessings like my job and my awesome new car! Its easy to lose sight of all we have been blessed with in the moment and to yearn for the little we don’t have. Or to find fault in all we do.
I don’t think we need to wait for our desires to be fulfilled to be full of life. We just need a good, grounded perspective on the birds in hand. Even when we don’t have anything, if we have a relationship with Jesus Christ we have more than enough and certainly all we need for our good and God’s glory for all eternity.
Instead of panicking about work overload and stressing about my car radio dying and wondering about every little noise and shift in the engine I should have thanked the Lord for providing a full time position for me after being part time two years. I should trust Him that this car (won at a car auction, right on budget, low mileage, great gas mileage and a lovely shade of blue) is from Him and is my blessing.

The picture of this tree is one of 251 pictures I took Saturday morning. It is 1 of the 4 pictures that actually look good! I spent a minute (or two…) feeling bad about the 247 lackluster, out of focus, boring images. When I decided to simply enjoy the 4 and reflect on how beautiful the morning was and how enjoyable the time in the woods, I forgot all about the 247!

“My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips:
When I remember thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the night watches.” Psalm 63:5,6
